  • last year
Firefighters were called to a blaze at an east end recycling centre at 2.30 am on the eighth of February.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two crews were still at the site on Nuneaton Street at 7.30 am the following day, and described the situation as complex.

Next up, a proposal to build more than one hundred flats on city centre car park has been given the green light by the council’s planning committee, despite fears over the loss of open space.

Merchant City and Trongate Community Council expressed a desire to turn the land into a park, but a casting vote by planning chairman Councillor Ken Andrew meant the project was approved.

And in other news, the American diner chain Monterey Jack’s is closing their Merchant Square restaurant due to rising bills.

The company wrote on social media that they simply could not survive against the cost of energy, food, and rent.
