Firebird is a film by Peeter Rebane that tells the true story of a soldier who fell in love with a fighter pilot during the Cold War. But a romance between two men on a Soviet air force base in the 1970s is no where near safe, meaning the soldiers must hide their passion from the world. The film stars Tom Prior and Ukrainian actor Oleg Zagorodnii. Gayety met writer and director Peeter Rebane to chat about why this is a love story worth telling and seeing.
