Disney’s “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” follows the exploits of 11-year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) as he experiences the most terrible and horrible day of his young life—a day that begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by one calamity after another. But when Alexander tells his upbeat family about the misadventures of his disastrous day, he finds little sympathy and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him. He soon learns that he’s not alone when his mom (Jennifer Garner), dad (Steve Carell), brother (Dylan Minnette) and sister (Kerris Dorsey) all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn't had one.

Der 11-jährige Alexander ist ein Pechvogel, wie er im Buche steht. Andauernd passieren ihm die blödesten Dinge, während seine restliche Familie kaum weiß, wohin mit ihrem Glück. Es ist klar, dass sich Alexander fragt, warum nur ihm der Kaugummi im Haar kleben bleibt oder das Schulheft abfackelt – bis zu diesem speziellen Tag, an dem es doch alle auf einmal trifft, so richtig dicke: Vater Ben bei einem Vorstellungsgespräch und Bruder Anthony bei seiner lang ersehnten Führerscheinprüfung. Auch Mutter Kelly sowie Schwester Emily werden von ihren ganz eigenen Probleme geplagt. Als alles gehörig schief geht, freut sich Alexander zwar insofern, als dass er mit seinem Unglück nicht länger allein ist. Allerdings erlebt er ebenfalls den schlimmsten Tag seines bisherigen Lebens…
