  • last year
Today's history lesson is on homosexuality in Ancient Egypt. Homosexuality was a cultural norm and practice in the Egyptian olden times. We know this through artifacts and historical evidence. Ancient Egypt also acknowledged lesbianism with art showing women embracing women. A couple of royal servants in the Fifth Dynasty, known as Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep, were said to be lovers, while others say they were brothers, and some publications say they were brother and lovers, which is obviously taboo nowadays. Egyptologists and archaeologists believe they are the first homosexual couple in recorded history.
