Percy Jackson has had an unnervingly quiet school year. But then he discovers that the magical borders protecting Half Blood Hill are failing. Unless something is done, the camp will be attacked by demons and monsters. The only way to restore power to the camp's borders and to save their home is to find the mythical Golden Fleece. And the only who can undertake this dangerous quest are Percy and his friends. Embarking on a treacherous odyssey into the uncharted waters of the Sea of Monsters (known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle), they battle terrifying creatures, an army of zombies, and the ultimate Evil.

Einmal die Welt retten und man fühlt sich für immer als Held? Nicht für Percy Jackson. Als hätte dieser mit seinem dahinschwindenden Ruhm nicht schon genug zu kämpfen, muss er auch noch feststellen, dass er nicht der einzige Sohn des griechischen Meeresgottes Poseidon ist. Und weil man sich die Familie nunmal nicht aussuchen kann, ist dieser leider gar nicht so, wie Percy sich das vorgestellt hätte. Viel Zeit zum Grübeln bleibt ihm allerdings nicht. Der Schutzwall des Campes ist gebrochen und alle Halbgötter darin sind in großer Gefahr. Zeit für Percy zu altem Ruhm aufzusteigen. Zusammen mit seinen Freunden Annabeth, Grover und Halbbruder Tyson bricht Percy nun auf in Richtung Meer der Monster, um dort nach dem Goldenen Vlies zu suchen – denn nur dieses kann die drohende Katastrophe abwenden.
