As the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Film Festival kicked off on January 27, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, spoke about the film boycott trend and stated, " If someone has a complaint, they can take it up with the Department it is then taken up with concerned Producer and Director. But sometimes people make comments without complete knowledge just to vitiate the atmosphere. It causes a loss, it shouldn't happen."Minister Anurag Thakur said, “I think that in a country like India, where on hand we say that we want to enhance our soft power when Indian films are making a name in different parts of the world, such things definitely affect the atmosphere.” Several Bollywood movies including 'Laal Singh Chaddha', 'Raksha Bandhan' and 'Brahmastra' among were forced to face the boycott trend on social media. Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' is the latest to be embroiled in the controversy.
