At some point, we’ve all probably wondered about what exactly the difference is between a shrimp and a prawn: are they the same, just a different name, a regional distinction? In this video, we get to the bottom of the issue with shellfish experts Steven Wong and Daniel Le. Shrimp and prawns are, in fact, distinct species, and the main difference between the two animals is anatomical. Experts usually distinguish by looking at the length of the animal’s legs, head, and horns. As far as taste goes, prawns tend to be sweeter and shrimp have a more salty flavor.
