How to Cope When
the News is Traumatizing.
From the riots at the U.S. Capitol to the
highly infectious COVID-19 variants, the news
has been overwhelming to say the least.
Here are some ways to ensure you take care
of yourself in the midst of all that’s going on.
Monitor your news consumption, Set a timer to stop scrolling and consider
how you consume your news.
Take a deep breath, Anxiety therapist Eileen Purdy, MSW,
suggests breathing in for four seconds,
holding for four and then out for eight.
Accept how you feel, “Expect that if something upsetting occurs,
you will be anxious. Don’t judge it or try to stop it,"
says licensed clinical psychologist Lata K. McGinn.
Don’t be afraid to ask
for help if you need it, Speaking to a therapist is always
an option, so don't rule it out
