Im Ersten Weltkrieg findet ein englischer Soldat das Schwert der Johanna von Orleans, welches ihm in einer Vision erscheint. Die Geschichte greift zurück auf die Historie, als die Heilige Johanna von Orleans an der Spitze der französischen Armee gegen die Engländer kämpft. Später wird sie an diese verraten, von einem kirchlichen Gericht zur Ketzerin erklärt und auf dem Scheiterhaufen verbrannt.
