The tiny village is scheduled
to be bulldozed to make room
for the mine's expansion.
According to climate activists, the coal mine's
planned expansion would result in vast amounts of
greenhouse gas being pumped into the atmosphere.
The expansion of the mine would also
violate Germany's commitment to
the 2015 Paris climate agreement. .
(We) will fight for every tree,
for every house, for every meter
in this village. Because whoever
attacks Luetzerath, attacks our future, Luka Scott, Spokesperson for the alliance
of groups organizing protests, via NBC.
The mine reportedly provides
a large portion of the lignite which
is burned at local power plants.
