Fakir lost mobility in his lower limbs as a result of a childhood polio infection. He thought he had lost out on life, and went into a depressive state. It wasn’t until a member of the Jagruti Foundation drew him out of his shell that he realised his own potential. He founded the Khanapur Angavikalara Okkutta, which is a group of the physically challenged in his taluk. He now counsels the physically challenged and helps them avail facilities and find employment.
