Paridae are corpulent passerine birds of small to medium size. The color of their plumage results essentially from the combination of yellow, red, blue, black and white. The colored parts are usually well cut and free of streaks or spots. Their beak is straight, quite short but powerful. It is a tool that allows them to pierce the envelope of hard seeds, to dig up dead wood, etc. Their legs, robust and clawed, are an adaptation to the wooded environment. They allow them to cling to branches and explore trees in all positions and situations, including upside down. They also keep between the claws the food that is attacked by the beak. Their reproduction is cave-dwelling. Depending on the case and the species, the nesting cavity pre-exists or is dug with the beak.
