British Pair Arrested After Four Tons of Cannabis is Seized in Spain

Two British nationals have been arrested in Spain for their part in an international drug smuggling effort involving four tonnes of illegal cannabis. Spanish police recently reported the recovery of 130 bales of cannabis resin after the U.K.’s National Crime Agency (NCA) informed them about a vessel suspected of being used to smuggle drugs from Morocco.

The British nationals, a 49-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, were manning the vessel when the pair encountered trouble during a storm in the Strait of Gibraltar. A Spanish customs patrol boat intercepted the vessel and, upon searching it upon arrival at the Port of Cadiz, the bales of cannabis resin were discovered. In a tweet posted by the Spanish National Police, the agency reports the sailboat was loaded with hashish and appeared to be on its way to South America.
