Following the conclusion of the District 16 recount requested by Republican candidate David Shepard, Democratic incumbent Melissa Hurtado has asked for a second recount, saying she believes the Kern County recount to be incomplete because Shepard only appears to have asked for voting precincts determined to be most favorable to him. Hurtado says she would like the rest of the county's ballots recounted as well. The Kern County Elections Office says they expect this recount to take up to two weeks to complete.
