This year Paush Amavasya is on 23 December. Dhanu Sankranti comes in the month of Pausha itself and Kharmas begins when the Sun enters Sagittarius. This month is considered best for religious and spiritual contemplation. According to the scriptures, this month is also called 'Chhota Shraddha Paksha'. इस साल पौष अमावस्या 23 दिसंबर को है। पौष माह में ही धनु संक्रांति आती है और सूर्य के धनु राशि में जाने से खरमास आरंभ हो जाता है। इस माह में मांगलिक और शुभ कार्य वर्जित होते हैं, इसलिए इस माह में पूजा-पाठ और पितरों के निमित्त किए जाने वाले धार्मिक कार्यों का विधान है। धार्मिक और आध्यात्मिक चिंतन के लिए ये महीना उत्तम माना गया है। शास्त्रों के अनुसार इस माह को 'छोटा श्राद्ध पक्ष भी कहा जाता है। इस माह में पितरों के लिए तर्पण, पिंडदान के साथ-साथ भगवान विष्णु एवं सूर्य पूजा भी विशेष महत्व है।
