Chef Abi @abi_and_u has a mild panic attack before their trip to JAPAN, when Rodey @rodey_blumoonpro goes off looking for alcohol for that long journey to East Asia. When Rodey finally emerges with a selection of Barefoot Wines, they are now on the clock to get all the ingredients for Chef Abi to prepare YAKI ONIGIRI (Grilled Rice Ball), HIBACHI STEAK with Mushrooms, and BANANA SUSHI.

On their way back to base (Kitchen) they were provided with some directions that proved a lil iffy, and the experience at Knolly’s Tunnel is a pleasant one in comparison. So the Culinary Duo sort higher grounds on Sando Hill to reset, and catch their bearings.

Here are the menus from this Episode

YAKI ONIGIRI (GRILLED RICE BALL)

2 cups short grain rice/ sushi rice cooked
1 tbsp salt
miso-
1 tbsp miso
2 tbsp marin
2 tsp sake
2 tsp sugar
2 tbsp butter - PRESIDENT BUTTER
chives finely chopped
sesame seeds
soy-
2 tbsp veg oil - LOTUS
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp butter

Rice should be dampened before cooking, so it plumps up. when rice is done divide into portions, shape the rice in a piece of cling wrap into the shape you desire while it’s still warm. In a bowl combine all the miso paste ingredients and mix well. Heat skillet over medium heat, add butter and grill the Onigiri for about 1 min each side. Brush the miso paste and grill until crispy. Plate and garnish with fresh chives. For the soy flavor grill the Onigiri on each side, brush with soy sauce keep turning until crispy. Serve with slight butter on top and fresh chives.



HIBACHI STEAK with Mushrooms

3 boneless steaks
4 tsp veg oil - LOTUS
8 oz mushrooms sliced
salt and black pepper
chives chopped
SAUCE-
1/4 cup soy
2 tbsp white vinegar
1 tbsp sugar
2 garlic minced
1 tbsp grated ginger
1/2 black pepper
NANDOS

For the sauce bring all the ingredients to a boil in sauce pan. Reduce the heat and stir for 4 mins cooking. Remove from heat and let cool. Heat grill or cast iron pan on stove top to high, Place steak into pan for about 1 mins until grill marks flip and remove from stove top and let it rest, it should still be rare. Cut into bite size cubes. Heat skillet over medium heat, add oil, place steak cubes, mushrooms and cook until mushroom are brown, add in sauce and cook for another 3 mins. serve with rice, topped with fresh chives.

BANANA SUSHI

2 bananas
1 cup dark chocolate melted
3/4 cup roasted pistachios

Peel bananas place toothpicks in each side to be able to coat with chocolate.
Cover bananas with melted chocolate and sprinkle with chopped pistachios.
Place in the freezer for a few mins to set. When the chocolate is hard cut into bite size and serve.
