South Korea vs Portugal 2-1 World Cup 2022 – as it happened

As the dust settles, South Korea are into the final 16 courtesy of Heechan’s stoppage time winner over Portugal.

It really was the quintessential “end-to-end” match, and that is demonstrated with the 12 shots on target the teams accumulated.

Although Portugal dominated large parts of the game, keeping possession overall at 62 percent, the South Koreans were never too far from springing the odd counter or two when conditions were favourable.

The Navigators will not be too affected by the result though, as they had already sealed pole position in the group after putting away Ghana and Uruguay.

With Uruguay failing to get enough goals in their 2-0 victory over Ghana, the South Americans and Africans exit the tournament as a consequence of the South Korean result.
