The explosive results of the 2014 X-Games in Austin sent shockwaves across the extreme sports world. Nyjah Huston tied the highest score in the Skateboarding Street event, 14-year old Tom Schaar became the youngest competitor to win the Big Air event, and Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, with three teammates on OpTic Gaming, became the first pro gamers to don X-Games gold medals.

The nationally televised tournament started with the 8 best North American Call of Duty teams, and across a 4 day festival of firsts and broken records, it was poetic for Nadeshot, a pillar of the community, to bring home his first Major League Gaming championship.

Six years of competing in professional COD all came down to this weekend for the Chicago native. Shaken by recent performances, he found himself with cold feet, and awaiting in Texas were fearsome competitors of the COD: Ghosts season. The iconic Evil Geniuses dynasty, formerly of compLexity, was still moving and the quiet explosiveness of a newly formed Team Kaliber looked set to be a difficult obstacle.

The names Nadeshot, Scump, Clayster, and Proofy were met with crowd praise coming into the event, but despite pundit concerns, two things were certain for Nadeshot: he was still invested in the team’s potential and he was coming home with a victory...
