Less than four weeks later, Mr Sunak has fulfilled that pledge and demonstrated UK solidarity by making his first visit to Ukraine, announcing a £50m package of air defence systems to protect civilians and - crucially - infrastructure after Russian bombardment left 10 million people without power.
