The word ‘Toshakhana’ has been making the rounds in media for a while now after references were filed against some former rulers for allegedly misusing it. Toshakhana is a government owned department under the control of Cabinet Division of Pakistan formed in 1974. Its main purpose is to keep gifts which are received by members of parliament, ministers, foreign secretaries, the President, and the Prime Minister. Under the rules, it is mandatory that gifts of a certain value are deposited in Toshakhana. However, an official is also allowed to keep these gifts provided he pays a certain percentage of the price assessed by the Toshakhana evaluation committee. UrduPoint anchor Zeeshan Aziz has thrown the Spotlight on the lesser known facts of Toshakhana Law, its conditions and clauses in this video. Have a look at it.
