'Folding up' restraint may be banned as Banksia Hill summit announced by WA government

The WA Premier says the use of a 'figure four' or 'folding in' restraint technique in the state's correctional facilities will be reviewed and potentially banned, after a Four Corners report this week showed a young detainee at Banksia Hill Detention Centre being restrained by a number of staff members, using a method that poses the risk of suffocation and is banned in Queensland. Mark McGowan says the method may not be able to be restricted immediately because of the time it takes to train staff in alternative restraint techniques.
