A Place in the Sun presenter Jonnie Irwin reveals terminal cancer diagnosis

TV presenter Jonnie Irwin has revealed he has terminal lung cancer that has spread to his brain. The presenter of A Place in the Sun and Escape to the Country hopes his diagnosis will inspire others to “make the most of every day.” Irwin said the first sign of his illness came when his vision became blurry when driving as he filmed A Place in the Sun in Italy in 2020. A week later, the now 48-year-old was given his diagnosis. "I had to go home and tell my wife, who was looking after our babies, that she was on her own pretty much. That was devastating," Irwin said. Irwin, who has a three-year-old son and two-year-old twins with his wife Jessica, said he had chosen to keep his illness private. However, there had been speculation after Irwin was absent from the show and his appearance had changed when he returned. "I hope that by shaking that monkey off I might inspire people who are living with life-limiting prospects to make the most of every day," Jonnie Irwin. Irwin has continued to work as much as possible and says his attitude is that "I’m living with cancer, not dying from it."
