Halloween tragedy in Itaewon, South Korea: at least 154 people die as a result of crowding

South Korean police are investigating what caused Halloween crowds to jostle on a narrow street in the capital, Seoul on Saturday night (29/10) in which at least 154 people died.
Most of the victims who died were teenagers in their 20s. Nineteen of them are believed to be foreign nationals.

Information from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that there were "two Indonesian citizens with minor injuries" as a result of the tragedy.

"The two Indonesian citizens are currently in good condition and have returned from the hospital," said Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in a written statement, Sunday (30/10) afternoon.

So far the cause of this incident is still being investigated.

After holding an emergency meeting, the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk-yeol, ordered the formation of a team to help treat the injured.

He also ordered an investigation into the incident.

By death toll, it is the deadliest disaster in South Korea since 2014, when the Sewol ferry sank killing more than 300 people.
