The Dallas Cowboys (6-2) defeated the Chicago Bears (3-5) 49-29 in AT&T Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The offense was the name of the game today for Dallas, not the narrative for most of the season but Dak Prescott and his offense found their mojo today.
It was all Dallas in the first half, the Cowboys scored a touchdown on the first four possessions to give the Cowboys a 28-7 lead with six minutes left in the first half.
The offense was more in-sync than we have seen all season. QB Dak Prescott scored a three-yard rushing touchdown in the opening drive of the game. CeeDee Lamb caught a 21-yard touchdown on the second drive of the game. Tony Pollard scored a rushing touchdown minutes later and Jake Ferguson scored his second NFL touchdown… all before the first half.
The Cowboys were hitting on all cylinders on offense in the first half, which is a completely different narrative than what we saw last week against the Lions, or any game this season.
The momentum shifted when a roughing the passer was called against Cowboys Chauncey Golston that took away Trevon Diggs interception giving Chicago the ball back and in scoring distance. The Bears scored a touchdown and went into the locker room down 28-17.
Prescott proceeded to throw an interception the very next play that resulted in the Bears receiving the ball after the half. Chicago made it a game when they scored on the opening drive of the third quarter bringing their deficit down to 28-24.
The Cowboys offense did not let up and Tony Pollard scored his second touchdown of the night, giving Dallas a 35-24 lead over Chicago. The game got out of hand again for Chicago when Leighton Vander Esch forced a fumble that was picked up by Micah Parsons who then scored a 36-yard touchdown. That touchdown was Parsons first NFL touchdown of his career, giving Dallas a 42-23 lead ending the fourth quarter.
Chicago is known for their rush offense and Dallas is known for their sub par rush defense. Chicago put up 181 total rush yards before the fourth quarter even began and that is what kept them in this game. The Bears managed to score another touchdown in the fourth but Dallas’s defense could not be stopped.
With Chicago’s secondary being as dominant as they are, Dallas relied heavily on the run game and that was led by Tony Pollard. He scored a 54-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter to put the game away for the Cowboys. Pollard finished the night with six carries for 131 total rushing yards for three touchdowns.
Tony Pollard told us after the game that this offense needed a game like this. He said “We have been struggling in the red zone and it was good to show people that we can score 7 instead of settling for a field goal.”
