Residents in flood-affected areas have been able to evacuate on time, thanks to information provided by emergency services, but the urgent messages are usually only offered in English, making it challenging and dangerous for those who are unfamiliar or not fluent in the language. Hussam Saraf is a multicultural liaison at Greater Shepparton Secondary College and he is just one of a team of translators helping migrants and linguistically diverse communities gain vital information about the floods.
