Nasa's James Webb telescope captures spectacular image of newborn stars
  • last year
NASA has released an image of newly formed stars from the James Webb Space Telescope. The image captures nascent stars within a cloud of gas and dust at a stellar birthplace known as “The Pillars of Creation”. The stars form when knots in the cloud gain enough mass that they collapse under their own gravity and slowly rise in temperature. The scene was captured by Webb’s near-infrared camera, which can detect light from the first stars and galaxies. In this case, the image depicts a location within the Eagle Nebula, 6,500 light-years away. The “Pillars of Creation” image will help researchers improve their understanding of star formation. The “Pillars of Creation” was first captured by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995.
