Taiwan recorded nearly 47,000 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday—the most in a single day since the end of June. The government attributes the uptick in infections to the highly contagious Omicron subvariants. It also says the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday weekend made it easier for the virus to spread.
