National Assembly Constituency NA-239 from the coastal city of Karachi in Pakistan is a unique constituency of its kind. The names of most of its regions reflect the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The names of the areas around Faisal, the most important and central highway of Karachi, named after the former Saudi ruler Shah Faisal bin Abdulaziz, also tell a different story of Saudi love.
These areas include Shah Faisal Colony, Shah Faisal Town, Faisal Air Base, Faisal Cantonment and Saudabad among others. This constituency consists of 12 union committees of two towns and one ward of Faisal Cantonment.
All Union Committees of Malir Model Colony are included in it. Apart from this, 4 Union Committees of Shah Faisal Town also fall in this constituency.
Constituency NA-239 has been won by different political parties in different periods.
This time, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan won the by-election.
Shah Faisal Colony was called Drug Road Colony before it was named after Saudi Crown Prince King Faisal bin Abdulaziz. The Durg Road railway station still exists in this area.
Similarly, Shah Faisal Town was placed under the town system introduced in the year 2000 in Shahr Quaid. In this system Karachi city was divided into 18 towns and this area located in Shah Faisal Colony was named Shah Faisal Town.
Apart from this, most of the projects around Karachi's main Shara Faisal have been attributed to Saudi Arabia, including Faisal Air Base, Faisal Cantonment and others.
