Russians search for Jewish ancestry to flee military draft
  • last year
At a Red Cross centre in Moscow, Russians are trying to find traces of Jewish ancestry to flee Vladimir Putin’s partial mobilisation of reservists to fight in Ukraine. Genealogist Vladimir Paley said many appeals are from women 50 to 60 years old who are trying to help their sons avoid conscription.  Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics recorded 20,000 arrivals from Russia and more than 12,000 from Ukraine since the end of February.
