NBC News reports the beloved actress died on Tuesday according to an announcement from her family.
The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday, Family, via statement .
Lansbury amassed a total of five Tony Awards, 11 Emmy Nominations and an honorary Oscar in her decorated career.
The London native’s mother was an actress and her father was a politician. .
After her father died when she was only nine years old, her family moved to the U.S.
She landed her first breakthrough role in the 1944 film, “Gaslight,” starring Ingrid Bergman.
She is known for her iconic roles in the Broadway plays “Mame,” “Gypsy” and “Sweeney Todd.”  .
Landsbury’s standout role as Jessica Fletcher in CBS’s “Murder She Wrote” made her a household name. .
The show ran for 12 seasons and was one of CBS’s biggest hits of the 1980s. .
She is also known for voicing Mrs. Pott in Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
