LONDON'S ZOO TIGER CUB'S FIRST HEALTH CHECKUP

London Zoo's three new tigers cubs have been given a clean bill of health, at their first check up.

Born on 27 June, the trio of Sumatran tigers were confirmed as two males and a female during their milestone appointment.

As mom Gaysha waited nearby, ZSL veterinarian Dr Ellie Milnes gave each stripey youngster a thorough nose-to-tail examination, checking their eyes, teeth and heart. Their overall physical health and their weight was also noted - the two males clocking in at 9.3kg and 8.25kg, and the female weighing 6.7kg.

The trio were also given their first vaccinations, and microchipped to easily identify them as they grow. Their details will be recorded on the global breeding programme for the species.

This first health check is really important for the cubs, not only is it a chance for us to really investigate how they’re doing and how well they’re growing, but their first vaccinations help to boost their young immune system and keep them healthy and well.

The cubs are to be named later.
