A man has been rushed to hospital in a suspected shooting near a police station in Derby today (Fri). Witnesses recalled hearing six gunshots coming from a Farm Foods car park in Ascot Drive at around 10.30am. The scene of the shooting is opposite the newly opened £9.5 million police station and fire station which opened in April this year. Derbyshire Police confirmed a man has been taken to hospital by air ambulance. A spokesperson said: “Officers are currently in attendance at an incident at Ascot Drive police station in Derby. “Ascot Drive is currently closed and a man has been taken to hospital.” Witnesses told how they heard multiple gunshots while shoppers at a nearby B&M were evacuated. One factory worker said: “We were in a factory just down Ascot Drive and we heard about six gunshots. “We came running outside and saw about six to eight police cars firing past and immediately closing the road. “Everyone was getting turned around, it was pretty scary.” Mum-of-two Joanne Kennedy, 30, said: "I was on my way into the shop when I heard really loud crashes or bangs like beer barrels falling off a lorry. "A minute or so later the whole place was swarming with cops and sirens blaring. We were all ordered back and told to leave the area. "It was like something from a movie. I could hear a helicopter coming in and then it was suddenly away again." The scene of the shooting is around a mile to the south of Derby County FC’s Pride Park Stadium in the city.
