REI announced on Tuesday that starting this year, it will close on Black Friday across all its stores, distribution locations, call centers, and headquarters. For the past seven years, the outdoor retail company has remained closed on Thanksgiving Day to give its employees the day off as part of its #OptOutside movement. “Opt Outside has always been about prioritizing the experience of our employees, choosing the benefits of time outside over a day of consumption and sales,” REI CEO Eric Artz said in a statement.
