GRU SPETNAZ, RUSSIA'S MOST DEADLY SPECIAL FORCES

The G R U Spetsnaz is an elite military formation under the control of the G R U military intelligence service.

It was the first Russian spetsnaz or special forces, more than two decades older than the KGB, FSB or MVD.

G R U is an acronym for Glavnoye Razvedyvatel'noye Upravleniye Generalnovo Shtaba which means General Staff of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate.

However, the acronym is usually shortened to simply G R U which stands for Glavnoye Razvedyvatel'noye Upravleniye or Main Intelligence Directorate.

The word Spetsnaz is often written in all capital letters.

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB), is the main security body of the Committee of the Russian Federation and the main successor body of the USSR State Security (or KGB).

His primary responsibilities are within the country and include counter-intelligence, internal and border security, counter-terrorism, and surveillance and investigating certain types of serious crimes and other violations of federal law.
