World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz sent the tennis world into a frenzy after a shot from behind helped him win the point against Jannik Sinner in one of the best moments of the US Open.

Rising star Carlos Alcaraz lived up to his growing reputation with a dazzling shot that brought the Arthur Ashe crowd to its feet in disbelief at the US Open.

The 19-year-old produced an incredible moment that will be repeated for years to come when he returned Jannik Sinner's effort with an incredible shot from behind. When Sinner struck back, Alcaraz took up the point with an arrogance that drew deafening screams from New York.

The teenager was greeted with a standing ovation after his gravity-defying shot and many called it one of the greatest shots of all time. One spectator said: "If this match is the future of men's tennis, we are in for a great era."

And another wrote: "Carlos Alcaraz just made the best shot I've ever seen in my life."

While a third posted: "If this match is the future of men's tennis, we are in for a great era."

And perhaps there is the new era of tennis on the horizon as the world looks to the future with Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic nearing the end of their careers. Sinner, just 21 years old, is a true talent from Italy and there could be more battles to come in the future.

But it was Alcaraz who emerged victorious on Wednesday night in an absolute thriller in the US Open quarterfinals. The youngster saved a match point before earning a 6-3 6-7 (7-9) 6-7 (0-7) 7-5 6-3 victory over Sinner.

And the Arthur Ashe crowd was treated to a nightly show with the match until 2:50 a.m., a record time. Alcarez became the youngest man to reach a Grand Slam semifinal since Nadal in 2005 at the French Open, where he will face American Frances Tiafoe.

"I still don't know how I did it. The level I played high-quality tennis. It's unbelievable," the Spaniard said. "I always say you have to believe in yourself all the time. Hope is the last thing you use. I believed in myself, in my game."
