Aidan Meller, who created the ultra-realistic robot Ai-Da, believes that three years from now we will face unimaginable changes and says "we are all doomed" unless change happens now.

The creator of the first artist robot warns that the rise of artificial intelligence is "apocalyptic", and we are "rushing" for AI to take over from humans.

Aidan Meller, who is behind the ultra-realistic robot Ai-Da, believes that three years from now we will face unimaginable changes as man merges with machine.

He also believes that Elon Musk is right when he claims that nuclear war would have less impact on humanity than AI.

Aidan says: “I agree with Elon Musk that AI is a bigger threat than nuclear war, but it could also be notable.

“He has every right to be nervous about the rise of AI.

“We are rushing towards them taking over humans, so we must have a heart of ethics.

“We are merging with the machines; Be careful, this is a changing world.”

Today, the free Imagining AI exhibition explores the boundary between humans and machines at Oxford's Bodleian Library.

Aidan will be there with Ai-Da, who had an art exhibition at Glastonbury where he painted headliner Billie Eilish.

He will meet with schoolchildren and create a new piece of art for the event.

Aidan adds: “The AI is going to show a mirror of the dark side of the human being.

“Technology isn't good or bad, it's how we use it. This exhibition will show how it came about and where we want to go”.

On display will be rare letters from Ada Lovelace, the world's first computer programmer and the inspiration for the robot's name. She died at age 36 in 1852.

There will also be one of the two Babbage Engines, the precursor to the first computer that was designed by inventor Charles Babbage. Aidan continues: “We are making leaps and bounds: robots will become human and AI is already manipulating social media and elections.

“We have important international news about Ai-Da in October and November: profound innovations to make her more human.

“She is not conscious, but she is a machine that you can interact with.

“This project is to raise questions and challenge ethics. The turning point will be 2025 and by the end of next year we will all be in the Metaverse."

With new Prime Minister Liz Truss newly in office, Aidan calls on the world's governments to unite around AI, and he believes we could one day see robots in office.

He says: “It is very possible: AI has an important role in the change of government.

“A fair system is important. The global government would have to have rules or it could be negative.

“You don't want to give power to corporations. It could determine our downfall.

In addition to seeing humans and robots cross, Aidan is convinced that we will soon live on other planets.

He predicts: “We go to the Moon and humans will live on Mars.

"We will be a multiplanetary species in our lifetime and robots will be the first on Mars."
