CNN reports that Donald Trump's former aide, Steve Bannon, surrendered himself to authorities on Sept. 8.
He's been indicted on state charges related to alleged fundraising efforts for the U.S. border wall. .
Those charges include money laundering, conspiracy and fraud.
CNN reports that the indictment alleges that an associate of Bannon launched an online fundraising platform for border wall efforts.
Prosecutors say "100% of funds" was promised to go toward construction efforts.
Nobody who was involved was supposed
to take a salary from the project.
CNN reports that Bannon is accused of helping to take hundreds of thousands of dollars from the funds to pay himself and his associates. .
Bannon was previously indicted on federal fraud charges, but former President Trump pardoned him.
The Manhattan D.A. launched its own investigation shortly after which resulted in the current charges.
Bannon, who is expected to plead "not guilty," issued a statement about the "phony charges" on Sept. 6.
