Today marks 50 years since end of mandatory military service

Veterans, former servicemen and their families have gathered at the Australian war memorial in Canberra to mark fifty-years since the end of Australia’s national service scheme. The scheme required young men to undergo compulsory military service including more than 15 thousand Australians during the Vietnam War.
