Australian treasurer Jim Chalmers has refused to preempt government discussions about COVID leave payments.

National cabinet will meet to discuss shortening the COVID-19 isolation time from seven to five days amid a push from state premiers.

A discussion is also expected on the pandemic leave payments, due to cease at the end of September, when Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hosts his state and territory counterparts in Sydney on Wednesday afternoon.
