Justice Uday Umesh Lalit took oath as The Chief Justice of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu on August 27. Justice Lalit assumed charge on August 27, he will have a relatively short tenure of over three months and is due to retire on November 8. He will also only be the second CJI to have been appointed directly from the Bar without serving as a judge of a high court.
