The United States carried out its delayed test of a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile on August 16, 2022. It had been rescheduled to avoid escalating tensions with Beijing during mainland China’s military drills and live missiles testing in the Taiwan Strait earlier this month following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei. The April test of the Minuteman III had also been postponed to lower nuclear tensions amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
