The Janata Dal (United) parted ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, bringing a close to the alliance that emerged in 2017. JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar resigned from his post as Bihar Chief Minister and was later elected as the leader of the Mahagathbandhan.

He is set to take oath as the Bihar Chief Minister on Wednesday, August 10 while Tejashwi Yadav will be sworn-in as his deputy. Nitish Kumar's JD(U) and Tejashwi Yadav's RJD are likely to get 14 ministerial berths each.

Meanwhile, the Congress, which is also a part of the grand alliance, is likely to get three ministerial berths.
