Discover Scotland like you never seen it before in the spectacular fourth season of 'Europe from Above'
(London, UK – 12th July 2022) – National Geographic takes to the skies again to share more spectacular aerial views of the continent – commencing with a breath-taking journey around Scotland – in the fourth instalment of popular documentary series Europe from Above, airing exclusively on National Geographic from Thursday 11th August at 8.00pm.
The new and exclusive six-part series also offers up spectacular views of the finest cultural and geographic landmarks across Denmark, Serbia, Belgium, Bulgaria, and Romania, using cutting-edge drone technology to take viewers on a stunning visual journey around each of these locations.
This breath-taking aerial footage gives a unique insight into how tradition, engineering and natural wonders have shaped the continent, helping to paint a dynamic portrait of the region and the people who keep it alive.
With each episode focused on one distinct European country, this remarkable visual journey highlights and celebrates both nature’s creations and the human stories and engineering which continue to shape these great modern nations today.
In the brilliant first episode of Europe from Above, viewers are taken on an astounding adventure across Scotland, soaring over St Andrews whilst greenkeepers lovingly tend to the world-famous golf course, before travelling to East Lothian, to see nature in all its glory as honeybees feast on heather bloom.
We follow an ambitious new engineering project installing a sea turbine in the Orkney Islands that harnesses the power of the ocean to generate electricity and we witness a team of archaeologists in Glen Coe reconstruct a traditional Scottish clansman house using native materials.
Elsewhere in the new season we visit Denmark where we join winter sports enthusiasts at the Copenhill ski slope in Copenhagen, a dry ski slope built on top of a power station. And in Serbia we join engineers renovating the capital’s urban waterfront with new skyscrapers and other construction projects.
Travelling across Belgium, we witness the Ghent Light Festival where artists from all over the world gather every year to dress the streets of Ghent in one of the largest light festivals in Europe. And in Bulgaria we join meteorologists as they trek to the Musala Weather Station, 3km above sea level at the top of Bulgaria’s highest peak.
