Considering Doctor Strange 2 does conclude with a card stating "Doctor Strange will return," it's likely Cumberbatch will reprise his role at some point. However, it's not clear if that will be in Doctor Strange 3 or another movie first. Since a full-blown sequel is likely several years away, it wouldn't be surprising if Strange were to pop up in another project first, similar to the way he did in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Still, it seems likely Doctor Strange 3 will happen eventually, especially since Cumberbatch is excited about the idea. It's also worth noting it would be a bit odd of Marvel to introduce Clea, an important character from the comics played by a high-profile actor, only for her to appear in a minimal role going forward. Instead, her relationship and mission with Strange will likely take center stage in Doctor Strange 3, even if Cumberbatch appears in another MCU project first. Since Spider-Man: No Way Home sets Strange up to be a guiding figure in the wider franchise similar to Iron Man, it's good to hear Cumberbatch remains enthusiastic about the role after the events of Doctor Strange 2.
