South Korea’s top diplomat in Japan for first bilateral talks in nearly 5 years

South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin has travelled to Japan to meet his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The three days of meetings starting July 18, 2022, aim to repair a bilateral relationship that has fallen to all-time lows. The officials discussed a possible resolution to a ruling by South Korean courts against two major Japanese companies over the use of forced labour during Japan’s colonial rule of the Korean peninsula from 1910-45.
