Consumers now have to shell out more for everyday essentials as GST hike comes into effect. A 5% GST is applicable on dairy products like paneer, curd and kitchen essentials like flour, wheat, rice and honey. LED lamps, cutlery and bank cheques now attract a whopping 18% GST. Trade and medical associations have rejected the hike and demanded rollback of GST. Opposition leaders have also come down heavily on the central government including Rahul Gandhi who termed it as ‘Gabbar Singh Strikes Again’.
