Strong govt giving weaker rupee: Shashi Tharoor
  • 2 years ago
Taking a dig at the Central government for the latest round of Goods and Services Tax hikes on various essential food items, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on July 19 sarcastically said that the ‘strong’ Modi-led Centre has led to the rupee depreciation. “Rupee has crossed Rs 80. PM Modi is the one who made it an election issue in 2014. He was going to strengthen the rupee when he came because it shows a weak government, therefore a weak rupee. but then what is the strong government giving us? Even a weaker rupee,” he said. “When Modi Ji came to power, rupee was 50 something, now it's 80. Where is the question of responsibility?” asked Shashi Tharoor.
