David Bowie | Starman | Top of the Pops | 6 July 1972 | HD Restored
Here’s a long overdue, higher quality restored version of this classic 1972 TV performance.

From Wiki:
Bowie, the Spiders and keyboardist Nicky Graham, performed "Starman" on Top of the Pops on 5 July 1972. Bowie appeared in a brightly coloured rainbow jumpsuit, "shocking" red hair and astronaut boots while the Spiders wore blue, pink, scarlet and gold velvet attire. During the performance, Bowie was relaxed and confident and wrapped his arm around Ronson's shoulder. Transmitted the following day on 6 July, the performance brought public attention to the album and helped solidify Bowie as a controversial pop icon. David Buckley writes: "Many fans date their conversion to all things Bowie to this Top of the Pops appearance." The performance was a defining moment for many British children. U2 singer Bono said in 2010, "The first time I saw [Bowie] was singing 'Starman' on television. It was like a creature falling from the sky. Americans put a man on the moon. We had our own British guy from space – with an Irish mother." After the performance, "Starman" charted at number 10 in the UK while peaking at number 65 in the US.

The 50th anniversary of this uber-classic TOTP appearance was a couple of weeks ago. So why is Nacho late to the party, you might be wondering? Well, I had been planning this restoration since the beginning of the year. After all, there were no high quality versions of the Starman TOTP performance on line, ‘official’ or otherwise. Then I heard that there would be a new remastered version uploaded to the official Bowie YouTube channel. Okay, I thought, no need for my restoration then. However, having checked the new official upload very carefully, I think my version still has something to offer, and so I feel justified in sharing it.
Thanks for watching, hope you dig it!
