Infant Safety in an Airplane - What You Need To Know | WHAT DOES THIS DATA SAY |

"The information given in this episode is IMPORTANT. Please watch the episode till the very end.

Children have a greater risk while flying. In any unfortunate air incident, the children are susceptible to more injuries.

We, as parents, should be aware of how to secure our children during a flight. Most of us take child safety for granted. In fact, I have observed that most parents carry infants in their laps.

I present the data related to child fatalities and injuries from the unfortunate Air India Express flight IX1344 crash of August 2020. Out of the ten (10) infants, three (3) lost their lives while three more were seriously injured.

All ten infants were sitting on the laps of their parents.

After the DGCA probe, the final crash report states that Air India Express does not have a Child Restraint System nor any supplementary system. The airline encourages passengers to carry infants in their laps.

I further show you videos of crash tests conducted on vehicles carrying infants and children. Even a car crash at 30 km/hour can prove fatal for infants and children if not secured properly. It is essential you see this video because the same principle of force applies to vehicles and aircraft.

DGCA has sent an advisory to all airlines in India to implement Child Restraint Systems wherever feasible and possible. This advisory came in February 2022. So far, I have not seen any action from any airline.

It is time that we, the traveling public, start putting the right pressure on airlines to do their bit to make it safer for our kids.
