Australia welcomes new US commitment to the region

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has welcomed the United States renewed interest in the Pacific, as both countries seek to counter China's rising influence in the region. In a surprise address to teh summit US Vice President Kamala Harris has conceded the Pacific may not have received teh diplomatic attention and support it deserved. Speaking to North America Correspondent Jade MacMilliam in Washington, the Deputy Prime Minister says Australia and teh US need to pitch themselves as viable partners for the region.
